document the everyday: a photography workshop for moms

In this casual two hour, small group workshop, we'll explore ways to connect with and capture your children in an artistic way on any average day. I'll provide my top 5 'ingredients' that will make this task feel easy, while also providing basic DSLR knowledge along with a guide to take home and continue your journey on your own.  If possible, we'll also photograph children in their natural environment to round out our practice for the day. Remember: this class is created for moms, by a mom.

Rather than renting a studio with perfect lighting, I'd like to begin offering this workshop in actual homes with imperfect lighting situations so that we can practice finding light, and you'll get firsthand knowledge watching me find the light within minutes of entering the home (there are some great tricks for this!)

As a host, you'll receive a discounted admission based on the number of friends who book the workshop with her -- this basically means, the more friends willing to book with you, the lower your admission will be! It's also my way of thanking you for opening your home. (Please see host details & discount information at the bottom of this page.)

Wondering if your home would work as a host location?

  • Do you have room for 7-10 ladies in your home?
  • Are you located in or near the Greater Kalamazoo area? (I'm typically willing to travel - please contact me to discuss)
  • Do you have windows throughout your home with the ability to pull back shades/curtains?
  • Would you be willing to have your spouse or a friend bring your children back at the end of the workshop for us to photograph?

If you answered yes to most or all of these questions, then your home is perfect!

Some of you might be wondering:
Do I need a DSLR camera for this class? Or will my iPhone work?
While I do recommend a DSLR camera to get the most out of the class, the truth is: the best camera is the one you have with you! So bring it, and learn with us! You'll still take so much away about natural light and the best way to interact in order to grab those special moments.

Included in your workshop:

  • 2 hours packed with tips + tricks I've learned through years of experience, basic DSLR knowledge, and open discussion time to bounce ideas, questions, and concerns.

  • Digital PDF Guide filled with class review + even more tips, DSLR basics, iPhone photography tips, plus a list of my favorite online & local resources (sent via email after the workshop)

  • Invitation to a private Facebook group after the class where you can ask questions, share your images, and continue learning!

Next Class: Saturdays in January, February, March 2017
